Intervarsity

While the end of September might seem a very long way away (and it is), the club is starting to plan its crews for the Intervarsity Rowing Championships. Therefore we need to know who is potentially interested in attending.

The championships are probably one of the best weeks you will ever have while at uni. The rowing is always spectacular with both elite and non-elite crews in the mix, which means that rowers of all standards will find they end up in a fairly evenly matched final (even if it is not the A final).  However, it is probably the social side of the week that proves the highlight for most people, think of it as a week long road trip with 20-30 other friends.

This year’s competition is being held in Perth, which means that some serious planning needs to take place.

Details are below, we really can’t encourage people enough attend IV at least once whilst at uni.

 

Event Information

Dates:
26 September to 1 October

Location:
Perth

Likely cost:
$600 to $800 per person;

In the past the university has offered a subsidy of around $120 per person and the club will most likely match this. We can also organise fundraising events to help lower the cost for competitors, so the week away may be as little as $300-$500. But final cost will be determined closer to the date.

Crews and Numbers:
The club would like to send 15 to 30 rowers in various crews, both novice and senior crews can be sent. Selection of crews will take place in august or september

Training:
Off-season training will begin in mid-May, intense preparation/training will kick off at the end of July (start of second smester) and run up to games at the end of september. Ideally people would be available during the semester break, but some allowance can be made for people travelling home or out of the city.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NOW:
1. Fill in the form below.
2. Make sure that you will be available in second semester to attend training sessions (plan on at least 4-5 sessions a week); and
3. If possible be around Melbourne as much as possible during the winter break, particularly during July.
